Statement in Response to Text Messages Impersonating Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher

Houston, TX–Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s (TX-07) Political Director, Collin Steele, released the following statement in response to reports that text messages were sent to voters in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District impersonating Congresswoman Fletcher.

“The text messages purporting to be Congresswoman Fletcher did not come from our campaign,” said Collin Steele, Political Director for Congresswoman Fletcher’s campaign.  “These text messages misappropriating the Congresswoman’s name and likeness are deceitful, misleading, and an unlawful attempt to confuse and influence voters in the Democratic primary election.  Our campaign is exploring options to address this egregious misconduct.  Whether this attempt to disrupt American democracy is coming from the Agwan campaign, his supporters, or somewhere else, it must stop immediately.”

Now in her third term in Congress, Fletcher was first elected to represent Texas’ Seventh Congressional District in 2018, becoming the first Democrat in more than 50 years and the first woman ever to represent TX-07.
