Houston, TX—Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement in response to the passage of a new Texas Congressional map:
“Texas Republicans have passed a new law redrawing Texas’ Congressional districts, ignoring the thousands of Texans who attended hearings and registered their opposition to doing so and instead following the orders of President Trump to draw more seats designed to elect Republicans to Congress.
“This unusual mid-decade redistricting effort and the resulting map is an affront to Texans in product, process, and principle. The map intentionally dilutes the voting strength of minority communities across Texas and betrays the principle that all Texans should have the ability to have a say in our government.
“I will continue to fight for fair maps for Texans and all Americans in all the ways I can—in Congress, in the courts, and in the community. I remain committed to serving the people in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District, and ensuring that their voices are heard, now and in the future. I look forward to demonstrating my commitment to all of them in the months ahead and to continuing to give those who live in our community the representation they deserve in the Congress of the United States.”
