Houston, TX–Today, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) released the following statement after a three-judge panel in El Paso considering the case of LULAC v. Abbott issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the use of the congressional map the Texas Legislature passed and Governor Greg Abbott signed into law in 2025 in the 2026 elections. 

“The court reached the right result in its decision to prevent the new Texas congressional map from going into effect for the 2026 elections.  The evidence before the court made clear that race drove Texas’s mid-decade redistricting efforts from start to finish.  In reaching its conclusion, the court found that the Plaintiff groups have shown a likelihood of success on their racial-gerrymandering challenges to the 2025 map.  The 2025 map should offend every Texan–no matter who they vote for–because it betrays the fundamental principle that Texans should have a say in our government.

“This ruling is an important victory, and I am grateful to the dedicated team of lawyers and citizens who have worked tirelessly for this result.  There is much more work to do to ensure that we have fair maps in Texas and across the United States, in the courts and in the Congress, and I am committed to continuing to be a partner and leader in this fight.”
